オルドス － 中国最大の（つまり世界最大の）ゴースト・タウン
オルドスについては、２年ほどまえにも大きな話題となっており、このふしぎなゴースト・タウン現象には私も注目していたことがある。
当時と異なるのは、投機現象への抑制策もあり、破産者が相当出ていること、そして売れ残りの住宅、建設が途中で放棄されているものが続出してきている点である。下記の記事ではオルドスの状況が描かれているが、投棄者がかなりの損失をこうむり、街の金融業者（中国には多い。銀行から資金を借りれない業者が個人から資金を募り、それを不動産などに投資するという慣行が根強い）が夜逃げしたりしている。
オルドスは２０年ほど前から、石炭の産出で大金が入ってきた場所である。そして市役所も砂漠に巨大な都市建設プランを建て、そこにオルドスの住民も転がり込んできた金をその不動産につぎこみ、・・・こうしたことが続いてきた。
重要なのは、そして深刻なのは、これと類似の状況が２０以上も存在するという点である。小さな不動産開発の話ではない。数十万人も住める巨大な居住空間の開発なのである。そしてだれもそこに住んでいない。こうした現象は史上初の現象である、といってよいであろう。
